James N. Ermentrout

Jurist; born in Reading, Pa., in 1846. He was educated in the public schools of Reading. He became a teacher in the Tuscarora Academy, Union County, and in other schools, and for two years served as deputy superintendent of schools under his brother. While thus engaged he studied law, spent some years in the office of his brother, Samuel Ermentrout, and was admitted to the bar in 1867. He entered into partnership with his brother, who for a number of years was State senator, and afterwards a member of Congress, and the firm built up a very large practice. In 1885 he was nominated for judge, and was elected by a large majority; in 1895 he was renominated, and elected, and in 1905 was for the third time elected; and he is now serving as president judge of Berks County for the term expiring 1916. He is a Democrat in politics. Address: Reading, Pa.
